MORE ENGAGE GOODNESS

NEW PHOTOS

yeah...these are old..but what're ya gonna do?

VARIOUS COMMENTS FROM THE ENGAGE CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS:

(taken from the 'Graphitti Wall' display)

"Imagine 30,000 believers turnng old, worldly systems upside down, laying down their crowns to honor the King so with joy others would sing; "I am free!!"

Oh God, let freedom ring."

"HOW HARD IS IT FOR THE RICH TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD?"

PROVERBS 29:7- "The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern."

"The simplicity of this (PROVERBS 29:7) is like an equation, it is so clear, yet life and pressure from the world to "gain and not to give" makes the equation Hard!

"Righteous people = Care for the poor
Wicked = No concern"

"Lord, help our need for profit END and our concern BEGIN."

"Jesus is asking us to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters, and yet we are not willing to share from our excess. We have storage units full of junk we never use."

"If anyone has material possesions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?...in ME?"

"We did not do more for the poor because we were too busy with our over-scheduled live."

"Consumer culture survives by creating insecurity in us as well as our systems so we continue to buy products.

"But serving Christ and buying the lifestyle the idols demand are mutually incompatible. People simply do not have the time and the energy to serve 2 masters." - John Hayes from his book "Sub-Merge"

"The Love of God is not in me because my heart is caught up with myself. I don't even see the poor...until just recently, and now I am deeply grieved at my lack of love for all these years.

"I thought I was serving God faithfully, but I was missing the core of Jesus' heart.

"How do I love 'with actions and in truth' the poor in Orange County?"

"What have we become? Where have we 'put' God?
Why have we chosen to only belive and live 'part' of the message?"

"this is hard to believe because it's the 'OC' for crying out loud; it's where all the rich people live at, blinging with the Benze's and Louis Vittons.

"what's even more mind-boggling is that 'homeless' means living in a motel, when in actual terms I thought it meant to have no place to stay (no roof over your head).

"the "homeless" usually can't afford anything, barely a meal to be exact, so how is it that they can even afford to stay in a motel?"---
(in response to facts that there are thousands of homeless families in the OC living in motels)

"AWAY WITH THE NOISE OF YOUR SONGS! I WILL NOT LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OF YOUR HARPS (GUITARS). BUT LET JUSTICE ROLL ON LIKE A RIVER, RIGHTEOUSNESS LIKE A NEVER-FAILING STREAM!" - GOD (AMOS 5:23-24)"
-- God isn't pleased with our songs. The lyrics we sing are meant to be put into action. If our heart is for Him, then we are to be for the poor, the weak, the sick, and the broken. What we sing needs to be more than just words we sing, we need to put ourselves in a physical melody where we're out there serving and letting justice roll like a river.

"It's this physical movement in fighting for justice & righteousness that brings pleasure to His ears."

ENGAGE- SLIDES ON POVERTY, SCRIPTURE

ENGAGE- April 22nd, 2006

Engage- Experience- Interact- Involve

several entries on the graphitti wall dealt with the statistics of povery in the OC, others shared about specific interactions that they had with those they had served in the afternoon.

ARTS INTERACTIVE- LATE NIGHT ADDITIONS

After the evening session (which was awesome), we all headed over to the "Arts Interactive" room and several people added some of their thoughts and impressions of the day on the giant graphitti wall.

Here's a few of the images we captured...

MORE PICS OF THE "NOISE" PROJECTS

I've only barely lifted my head from the pillow the last few hours.

Soooo exhausted.

So much to share.

So...very....tired...

Basicaly, it was awesome. Everything was exactly what I had dreamed, or
better. Really.

Glad you could see some of it on the blog site, we still have tons of photos
left to upload and I need to write a bit of narrative about the day's
events.

The workshops were awesome. In the "Poverty In The OC" workshop that I taught, we spent all our time on one exercise that took the entire hour and a half because everyone was so into it and everyone was wanting to share.

The crowd was about 70 or so (I didn't count but we had 40 registered and
another 20 or so walk ups, plus our 15 volunteers so, it was about 70).

On Tuesday night God woke me up and told me, "Stop trying to make this
bigger if I want it to be smaller". So, I stopped and decided not to worry
about it.

The truth is, I really think it worked better at the size it was.
More intimate, more interaction, sort of an "invitation only" feeling to the
event. Hard to describe, but honestly, next year I'll cap registration at
100 people and advertise it as "Only 100 seats available".

I realized also that this smaller, more intimate, and interactive gathering is what I love about Greg Russinger's "SOLITON NETWORK" events up in Ventura. (And the next one is in August. Be sure to register while you can).

Anyway...Lots of great feedback from participants. Many had never been to anything
like this before. Most had never even served the poor in this way and so the
event really did hit the target demographic.

David Ruis is my hero. He kicked butt. I'll have cd's or podcasts (or both)
of his messages soon for ya.

Until then, if you were there at ENGAGE, I invite you to share your comments on any of the entries below so we can all read about your reactions first hand.

I'd love to know what everyone thought about the day.

Thanks for making our first ENGAGE so cool.

Next year will be even better...

Peace,
Keith Giles
